| Madden Befuddles New York in 2-0 St. Louis Win Sunday, September 22nd , 1963 The New York Gothams struggled at the plate against Pioneers hurler Steve Madden, who shackled them on 6 hits while hurling a complete-game 2-0 shutout.
"What can you say? We didn't hit well," said Gothams skipper Harry Davis in postgame comments. "Hopefully we shake this off and bounce back tomorrow."
Madden finished the game with 10 strikeouts and no walks in an excellent mound performance.
"He pitched real well," St. Louis manager Lou Ormsby said. "Steve made pitches when he had to. He hit his spots and did a great job of mixing in his changeup and using his fastball effectively."
This year, Madden has registered 18 wins and 8 losses in 30 starts with a 2.78 ERA while registering 154 strikeouts and 79 walks in 223 innings.
