 | Sailors Lose Spitler for Season Thursday, September 5th , 1963 The San Francisco Sailors were dealt a severe blow when Heinie Spitler was hurt running the bases recently in a game against the Cleveland Foresters. After the game, the team trainer reported Spitler might have to spend a lengthy time on the injured list. Today doctors confirmed it, ruling the 23-year-old second baseman out for the rest of the season with a torn posterior cruciate ligament. They indicated it would take Spitler at least 10 months to heal. This year, Spitler is hitting .361 with 189 hits, 6 home runs, 87 RBIs and has scored 99 runs. |   |
