 | Johnson Nixed as Manager by Pioneers Saturday, October 11th , 1975 When your team is not doing well, what does a general manager do? You can't fire the team or fire yourself, so you go to the next thing on the list -- fire the manager. That's exactly what St. Louis Pioneers GM Roark did today -- he fired manager Babe Johnson. In the press conference, the Pioneers GM pulled out all the usual cliches about why change was needed. He also praised Johnson in glowing terms and said he would remain a vital part of the St. Louis organization. As far as firings go, this was a harmonious parting. |   |
