| Martin and Thomas Dealt Monday, November 5th , 1962 Proving the old adage that one man's trash is another man's treasure, the Miners announced today the acquisition of 23-year old minor league RHP Howie Thomas and 20-year old minor league 3B Jack Purdy from the Cincinnati Cannons in exchange for 35-year old RHP Eddie Martin. "This isn't the deal of the century," acknowledged the Miners, "but we think it will improve the direction of both teams."
Pittsburgh will retain a portion of Martin's remaining contract.
The 35-year-old Martin has 284 appearances so far in his career and has thrown 1518.2 innings with 703 strikeouts and 7 saves. His won-lost record is 87-78 and his ERA stands at 3.95. | | |
