| Great Day for Lorang -- 5 Hits Tuesday, October 2nd , 1962 Tom Lorang was at the head of a Washington Eagles hit parade at Fitzpatrick Park. The 21-year-old went to the plate 5 times and came away with 5 hits, but it was the Pittsburgh Miners that marched off with the 6-3 win.
"We didn't have it today," griped Eagles skipper Roger Cleaves following the game. "Tom did fine, but as a team, we didn't do it with the bats and we didn't do it pitching."
Lorang did more than fine, dominating the Miners at the plate during his record-making 5-for-5 performance.
"Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging third baseman told reporters. "When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."
Tom Lorang singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
Lorang is currently hitting .387 with 35 home runsand 125 RBIs, while scoring 130 runs.
