| 3 Boomers for Kelley Sunday, September 16th , 1962 Zane Kelley brutalized the New York Imperials pitching staff, launching three home runs in the 13-0 San Francisco victory at Golden Gate Stadium. The San Francisco Sailors starting pitcher was red-hot, the ball just exploding off his bat all day.
"I don't try to hit homers," he said later. "I try to go out there and put a good swing on the ball, and sometimes it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one."
For the game, he went 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Too much Zane Kelley today," Imperials manager Ed Ziehl said. "That's my assessment of the game. That's what our problems boiled down to."
Zane Kelley hit a solo-shot off Neal Salk in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Neal Salk in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Bill Holm in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th and struck out in the 8th.
