| Chiefs Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Minutemen, 6-5 | The Chicago Chiefs defeated the Boston Minutemen, 6-5. Center Fielder Freddie Mitchel deserved a large share of the credit. Mitchel was 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Chiefs. Hal Alsip, who is tied for 5th in the FA in saves with 7, was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-5. The losing pitcher was Bud Shireman. Boston's current losing streak is now 7 games.
Chris Wells went 1-5. He drove in 2 runs for Chicago. The 25-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the top of the ninth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Bud Shireman. It was his 15th RBI of the season.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Wells. | |
