The St. Louis Pioneers topped the Washington Eagles, 4-1, in Federal Association action at Pioneer Field III. The game was highlighted by the performance of St. Louis pitcher Steve Madden. The win for the Pioneers lifted their record to 30-7.

In the bottom of the fourth, with St. Louis trailing 1-0, the Eagles allowed the Pioneers to go up, 2-1, on a base hit and Washington error.

"Steve showed what he's made of," said St. Louis manager Lou Ormsby.
