| Baltimore Beats Houston, 2-1 | The Houston Comets wasted an inspired, 8-inning effort from starter Jay Hunt, falling, 2-1, to the Baltimore Clippers at Patapsco Field. Baltimore pitcher Buck Guthrie earned the win, hiking his record to 7-1. Jay Hunt suffered the loss. Davey Cronin wrapped it up, recording his 6th save.
The Comets had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Clippers going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 32-year old shortstop Jack Goodman came to the plate. Goodman hit a run-scoring double on a first pitch sinker from Houston hurler Jay Hunt. It was Goodman's 6th double of the year.
"Watch and learn," said Goodman. "This is what good pitching looks like."
The win puts Baltimore at 20-11. | |
