| Kings Slap 2-1 Loss on San Francisco | The Seattle Kings beat the San Francisco Sailors, 2-1. Seattle pitcher and Estherville, Iowa, native Swede Hawkins led the way. The save was credited to Billy Collins, his 30th. By defeating San Francisco, the first-place Kings improved to 98-64.
Jesse Scott drove in one run for Seattle. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, Scott, who finished 4th in the FA in runs with 86 in 1968, had a clutch at-bat. Facing San Francisco hurler Jim Teal, he grounded out, driving in 1 run to give the Kings a 2-1 lead.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Scott, "one at-bat at a time." | |
