| Reese Throttles St. Louis, 3-0 | Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Houston Comets and the St. Louis Pioneers. Houston won it, 3-0. Houston starter Spencer Reese was in command. Picking up the save was Bob Young, his 28th. Houston is now 90-72. St. Louis is 69-93.
It was an impressive outing from the soft-spoken Reese, who tallied 5 strikeouts in 8 innings and allowed only 2 hits. Reese, who is tied for 5th in the FA in wins with 16, raised his record to 16-7 on the year with 99 strikeouts.
"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said Houston skipper Glenn Carney. | |
