Houston Comets starter Joe McCarthy found his groove in his team's 5-2 win over the Detroit Dynamos. The winning pitcher was McCarthy, now 21-7. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 5. Bob Young was called on to finish, recording his 24th save.

Houston won the game in part because of Hank Andrew. The center fielder ripped a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Comets ahead, 3-2. For the game, Andrew had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," McCarthy told the Houston Chronicle.
