| Moreland Swings Copperheads to 7-3 Win | The Atlanta Copperheads defeated the New York Gothams, 7-3. Doing his part was first baseman John Moreland, who was 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. The first-place Copperheads improved to 101-60.
Moreland contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Atlanta in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-2, Moreland took a fastball from Harry Hayward and stroked the home run to left. His 10th home run of the season allowed the Copperheads to leap in front, 5-3.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Moreland.
