| Copperheads Squeeze By Philadelphia, 7-6 | Though the conditions were not ideal, the Atlanta Copperheads and Philadelphia Keystones came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
The Copperheads grabbed a win, 7-6, at Broad Street Park II, overcoming a fine effort from Philadelphia pitcher Joe Downing. Downing went 6 innings and allowed 3 runs. The win gives Atlanta a record of 5-4.
Atlanta used the timely hitting of Gale Schmitt to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Copperheads on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Schmitt, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at." | |
