| Suns Squeeze By Houston, 6-5 | Houston got a big-time effort from pitcher Joe McCarthy, but it wasn't enough to keep the Los Angeles Suns from winning the game, 6-5. McCarthy threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Bob Hinzman, who is tied for 7th in the FA in wins with 15, was the winner. He's now 15-11. The loser was Joe Barnes. The first-place Suns, at 95-64, lead the Federal Association West by 7 games.
Tom Lally drove in one run for Los Angeles. The 1972 Kellogg Award winner had a key at-bat in the top of the ninth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Joe Barnes. It was his 106th RBI of the season.
Lally said he was "thrilled" the fans had something to get excited about.
