| Clippers Come Up Short at Washington, 10-9 | Baltimore got a terrific game from third baseman Hal Blank. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Washington, 10-9. Blank was 3-3 with 3 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. Don Maguire, 4-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 4 innings. Don Eddy earned his 14th save in 18 tries.
Don Whited drew 1 walk. He scored 2 runs for Washington. The 11-year veteran had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring walk off Jose Martinez. It was his 74th walk of the season.
"It was one of those games where both teams were swinging the bat well," Whited said.
After today's action, Washington sits at 70-87, while Baltimore falls to 74-82. | |
