Wolves Upend Cougars, 5-3 | George Hoxworth, who finished 4th in the CA in ERA with 3.06 in 1959, was locked in. The right-hander led the Toronto Wolves to a 5-3 win against the Chicago Cougars at Cougars Park. Hoxworth, now 5-8, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 3 runs. Picking up his 1st save was two-time All-Star Arnie Smith.
It could have been a different outcome for Toronto, had it not been for Ty Rusconi, the 25-year old catcher . Rusconi contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the second inning to put Toronto up, 1-0.
Rusconi attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
The win for the Wolves raised their record to 82-77. | |
