| Suns Take Down Chiefs, 5-4 | The Los Angeles Suns picked up a win at Whitney Park, knocking off the Chicago Chiefs, 5-4. Starting pitcher Al Whitman was a big reason why. The winner was Los Angeles reliever Moe Powell, now 10-6. The loser was Hal Alsip. Earning his 38th save of the year was Ron Clark.
Tom Lally came through with a big-time hit for Los Angeles. The pinch hitter smacked a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 5-4. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Whitman.
The first-place Suns, at 91-63, now lead their division by 6 games. | |
