| Clippers Clipped, 10-5 | The Atlanta Copperheads topped the Baltimore Clippers by a score of 10-5. Leading the way was second baseman John Newton. Newton went 3 for 5 with a triple and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4 for the Copperheads. Bill Hunn picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 3-7. Joe McDowell suffered the loss. The first-place Copperheads are 100-54.
The game was all tied up in the top of the eighth, until Newton delivered big-time for Atlanta, stroking a dramatic 2-run single off Larry Warren. The game-changing hit put the Copperheads on top, 5-3.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Newton. | |
