| Millers Prevail, 3-1, Over Pittsburgh | Minneapolis beat Pittsburgh on the strength of starting pitcher Joe McDowell's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 3-1. In 7.2 innings, McDowell surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Dan Charlton got credit for the save for Minneapolis. It was his 3rd of the year.
In the bottom of the ninth, Clay Waters stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Miners were trailing 3-1, but had runners on 2nd and 3rd. That's when Dan Charlton made a terrific pitch and Waters struck out. Gone was the dream of a Pittsburgh comeback.
The Millers now have a record of 45-108.
