| Cougars Beat Mavericks, 6-3 | Chicago first baseman Gene Homer made his presence felt in the 6-3 Cougars triumph over the Kansas City Mavericks. Homer went 3-4 with a triple and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Bob Goldman picked up the win, improving his season record to 7-11. He struck out 1 in 8 innings. Jim Norris picked up his 21st save of the season.
Homer got the Cougars off to a quick start. In the top of the first, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit a run-scoring single.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Homer said after the game.
The Cougars saw their record improve to 70-83.
