| Houston Beats St. Louis, 3-2 | George Roy, who finished 2nd in the FA in strikeouts with 190 last year, was locked in. The right-hander led the Houston Comets to a 3-2 win against the St. Louis Pioneers at Pioneer Field III. Roy yielded 2 runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 4, and struck out 8. His record improves to 12-13. Bob Young earned the save for Houston, his 21st.
Houston relied on the hitting of Jim Marshall to pick up the win. The third baseman ripped a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put the Comets on top, 3-2. For the game, Marshall had 1 triple and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"You can't take yourself too seriously," Roy told the Houston Chronicle. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."
Their 79-73 record puts the Comets second in the Federal Association West.
