Eagles Win 11-10 Nail-Biter Versus Gothams
In a tight contest at Columbia Stadium, the Washington Eagles edged the New York Gothams by the score of 11-10 in 14 innings. Washington first baseman George Whaley, who blasted 1 home run, was a key contributor. The Eagles have an impressive 94-58 record.

The climactic moment came in the bottom of the 14th for Washington. That's when Jack Thompson, who led the FA in hits with 201 in 1961, hit a solo home run off Russ Swift to win the game. The home crowd erupted in celebration.

"Ugly win or not, we'll take it," said Whaley.
