Chiefs Defeat Pioneers, 3-1
The Chiefs earned a hard-fought, 3-1 win in 12 innings at Pioneer Field III. To do so required withstanding a fine effort from St. Louis pitcher Red Kline. Kline went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Joe Jones snagged the win in relief. He goes to 5-4 on the season. Manuel Hernandez suffered the loss. Ed Rowley was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 6 save opportunities.

The result might have been different, had it not been for 32-year old right fielder Ricardo Castillo. Castillo had a 2-run single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Chiefs ahead, 3-1. For the game, Castillo had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

Castillo said afterward that "winning is what it's all about."

The 5th-place Chiefs are now 64-87, the Pioneers 74-77.
