| Eagles Lose, 1-0, as Copperheads Rally | In a tension-filled contest between the Atlanta Copperheads and the Washington Eagles, pitcher Howie Burt was superb. The Atlanta left-hander, who leads the FA in quality starts with 26, spearheaded his team's 1-0 win. The win went to Buddy Thomas in relief, making him now 8-8. Don Eddy took the loss for Washington. Now 97-52, the Copperheads have won 15 in a row.
Henry Woods's at-bat with one out in the top of the ninth was critical. The Atlanta pinch hitter drew a walk, driving in 1 run, to put his team on top, 1-0. Runs were at a premium and this one was huge.
"Everybody is chipping in right now," said Woods. "That's what makes it so much fun."
