Sad Sack Imperials Lose 6th Straight | 1962 is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the New York Imperials.
The Cleveland Foresters topped the New York Imperials, 6-3, at Dyckman Stadium. Cleveland third baseman Jerry Hubbs was a spark plug for the offense. He was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. Rufus Barrell II earned the win for Cleveland. He lasted 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 11 hits, while striking out 2. With the win, he raised his record to 17-8. Johnny Ogden nailed down his 28th save.
Paul Williams, who finished 3rd in the FA in extra base hits with 72 in 1954, aided the Cleveland cause with a run-scoring walk in the top of the eighth. For the game, the first baseman went 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk. He scored 2 times.
"Our approach was just to try to see something over the plate and be aggressive," Hubbs told the Cleveland News.
The Imperials, at 36-107, have lost 6 straight games. | |
