| Keystones Come Back Late, Nip Eagles | Philadelphia beat Washington at Columbia Stadium, eking out a 5-4 win. The triumph was primarily due to right fielder Joe Landry. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Jorge Arellano, who finished 3rd in the FA in wins with 16 in 1961, was the winner. He's now 7-13. The loser was Earl Frazier. Bobby Coy recorded the save, his 4th.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Jack Hinkle? The 27-year old catcher Hinkle stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put Philadelphia up, 5-4. For the game, he was 4 for 4, including 2 doubles and 2 singles.
"I just try to bring what I bring to this team," said Hinkle.
The Philadelphia winning streak has reached 3 games. | |
