Eagles Drop Suns, 2-1
Washington got a first-rate effort from pitcher Frankie Raymond, who frustrated Los Angeles hitters en route to a 2-1 Eagles triumph at Columbia Stadium. Raymond picked up the win for Washington, going 6.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. The win puts Washington at 89-57 this season.

George Whaley had a big run-scoring double for the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a fastball from Grant Davis, who finished 2nd in the CA in ERA with 3.06 in 1958, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 32nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Eagles ahead, 2-0.

"Main thing is I want the team to win," Raymond told a reporter after the game. "Just have to go out there, take care of my job, and give my team a chance to win."
