Selander Lifts Miners to 8-6 Triumph | The Pittsburgh Miners beat the Detroit Dynamos, 8-6, at Thompson Field. Frank Selander, who finished 4th in the FA in slugging percentage with .554 in 1961, starred for Pittsburgh. He went 3 for 3 with 3 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Pittsburgh raised its record to 82-63 with the win.
Had Selander not come through in the top of the eighth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Selander hit a 2-run single. The Miners took the lead, 5-4, and never looked back.
"See ball, hit ball. When I think too much, that's when I get in trouble," Selander told the Pittsburgh Daily News. | |
