Copperheads Get Past Washington for 6-5 Win
The Washington Eagles could not turn a fine performance from shortstop Al Marino into a win. Instead, the Atlanta Copperheads prevailed, 6-5. Marino went 2 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times. Now 92-52, Atlanta has won 10 consecutive games.

In the bottom of the ninth, with one out and the game tied, 5-5, fan favorite Howard Smith won it for Atlanta. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Smith hit a 2-1 fastball from Don Eddy for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 6-5 win.

"Everything seems to be clicking right now for us, top to bottom," said Atlanta manager Don Fox.
