Miners Earn 6-4 Win Against Dynamos
The Pittsburgh Miners topped the Detroit Dynamos, 6-4, in 12 innings. Pittsburgh right fielder Gale Schmitt, in particular, was impressive. He was 3 for 5 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs. The winner in relief was Howie Thomas. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. He now owns a record of 2-1. Mike Blackham closed it out for Pittsburgh, earning his 4th save.

The result might have been different, had it not been for 27-year old shortstop John Moreland. Moreland had a run-scoring double in the top of the 12th inning to put the Miners ahead, 5-4. For the game, Moreland had 1 double and 1 single in 6 at-bats.

"Our team showed some resilience," said Schmitt.

The win puts the Miners at 81-61, while the Dynamos drop to 89-55.
