Cunha, Sailors Wallop Pioneers in Game 1 of WCS | The Philadelphia Sailors started the World Championship Series in style, winning on the road against the St. Louis Pioneers at Pioneer Field II by a score of 6-1 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Sailors shortstop Les Cunha excelled. He went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice.
Cunha came through for the Sailors in the top of the ninth inning. With Philadelphia leading 2-1, the shortstop hit a grand slam home run. It made the score 6-1, Philadelphia.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Cunha said after the game.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Pioneer Field II in St. Louis. | |
