| Cross Good, But Not Good Enough, in 11-6 Loss | The Kansas City Mavericks had to overcome a big game from San Francisco first baseman Lew Cross to leave Mavericks Stadium with a victory. And they did, winning, 11-6. Cross belted 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Nelson Roderick snagged the win in relief. He goes to 3-1 on the season. Ralph Pierce suffered the loss. The 5th-place Sailors have lost 4 consecutive games.
Had Art Davis not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Davis hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Mavericks.
"It never gets old," said Davis. "Winning, that is." | |
