The Detroit Dynamos had to weather a strong performance from Los Angeles pitcher Jim Place before claiming a 3-2 win in 10 innings. Place went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Dick Butler picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 4-4. Jim Perrin was tagged with the loss. The win boosted Detroit to 72-69.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Detroit left fielder Gil Jones, facing Jim Perrin, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Dynamos the 3-2 win.

"We're all about heart and hustle on this team. That's what wins ballgames," Jones told the Detroit News.
