| Extra-Inning Win by Saints Over Cannons | The Montreal Saints and Cincinnati Cannons needed extra innings at Tice Memorial Stadium II to determine a winner.
Cincinnati wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Herm Quinn, falling to the Montreal Saints, 3-2. Quinn threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. The winner was Montreal reliever Miguel Hernandez, now 8-10. The loser was Joe Cipolla.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Eddie Thomas came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Cincinnati pitcher Joe Cipolla, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Montreal on top, 3-2.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Montreal manager Harry Barrell.
The Saints raised their record to 69-70. | |
