Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Gothams
Columbia Stadium was the site of a competitive game between the Washington Eagles and New York Gothams.

Washington wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Sam Rodgers, falling to the New York Gothams, 5-3. Rodgers threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. New York pitcher Bunny Mullins earned the win, hiking his record to 17-8. Don Eddy suffered the loss.

The Gothams used some clutch hitting to beat the Eagles, a good example being the at-bat of Bill Arndt in the top of the eighth. With two down, Arndt gave his team the lead, 4-2, when he hit a 2-run single.

"You never take a win for granted in this league," said Arndt.

The Gothams go to 80-58, putting them second in the Federal Association East.
