Suns Squelch Millers Offense in Shutout Win | Los Angeles starter Red Burtch pitched effectively against the Minneapolis Millers at Wilshire Park. The right-hander led his team to a win, 6-0. Burtch got the win, improving to 7-18. He gave up 6 hits and walked 4 over 8 innings. He allowed no runs. The win has Los Angeles at 47-93.
Russ Hawkins had a big 3-run home run for the Suns in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Los Angeles leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Walt Staton, who finished 3rd in the CA in ERA with 2.40 in 1952, and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Suns on top, 4-0.
"We believe in ourselves and we're willing to work hard. It's a good combination," Hawkins told the Los Angeles Chronicle. | |
