| Millers Earn 4-3 Win Versus Pioneers | The Minneapolis Millers did just enough to sneak past the St. Louis Pioneers, 4-3, at Hennepin County Stadium. Minneapolis pitcher Jack Turner, in particular, had a standout performance. At 63-75, the Millers find themselves in 4th place in the Federal Association West.
Up to bat in the bottom of the 12th, 29-year old shortstop Bucky Raymond had a chance to be the hero. St. Louis pitcher Ron Washington wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Raymond grounded out, driving in 1 run. The Millers had themselves a thrilling win.
St. Louis manager Babe Johnson said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said. | |
