In a tight contest at Cougars Park, the Chicago Cougars edged the San Francisco Sailors by the score of 5-4. Chicago first baseman Gene Case, who blasted 2 home runs, was a key contributor. The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Buddy Byrd came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing San Francisco pitcher Eddie Chapman, he hit a 0-1 curveball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Chicago on top, 5-3.
