Sailors Capture 8-5 Win at Cougars Park | Thanks in large part to center fielder Herbert Crawford Jr., the San Francisco Sailors beat the Chicago Cougars, 8-5. Crawford Jr. was 3-3 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs. George Fuller picked up the win, lifting his record to 12-10 on the season. He struck out 2 and walked 1 in 7 innings, while yielding 3 runs. The Sailors lead the Continental Association by 3½ games.
Ray Rogan had a big 2-run home run for the Sailors in the top of the first inning. With San Francisco leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 25-year old right-handed pitcher John Mitchell and punished it. The result was his 11th home run of the season, which put the Sailors on top, 4-0.
"I have a job to do," Rogan said, "and I did it." | |
