| Pioneers 5-1 Winners Versus Los Angeles | Harry Anderson, who led the CA in wins with 19 in 1968, never let the Suns get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his changeup, to pitch the Pioneers to a win, 5-1. The winner was Anderson. He threw 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball. The loser was Pete Meissner. Roy McDonald got the save, his 35th in 42 chances.
Sam Peterson had a big 2-run double for the Pioneers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With St. Louis leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from former first round draft pick Pete Meissner and swatted a double to left. It was his 23rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pioneers ahead, 3-0.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Peterson told a St. Louis Gazette reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
St. Louis goes to 61-77, Los Angeles to 81-58. | |
