Stars Beat Kings, 7-6 | The Los Angeles Stars withstood an impressive performance by Kansas City third baseman Ken Newman to defeat the Kings, 7-6, at Bigsby Stadium. Newman went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Sy Dunn got the win, improving to 12-7. He worked 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. Ted Ferguson closed the game out for Los Angeles, earning his 18th save.
The Stars got a big at-bat from third baseman Ralph Barrell. For the game, Barrell went 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 26th home run of the season gave Los Angeles a 4-3 lead.
"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Barrell, "but we got it done."
