| Down Goes Washington, 3-1 | The Houston Comets picked up a win at Columbia Stadium, courtesy of Joe McCarthy. The right-hander helped his team stop the Washington Eagles, 3-1. The win lifted the Houston record to 73-62.
John Edwards, who finished 2nd in the FA in doubles with 46 in 1970, had a direct impact on the outcome. Edwards contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Houston up, 2-0.
