Montreal got a valiant performance from pitcher George Williams, but it wasn't enough to beat the New York Imperials. New York won the game, 4-3. Williams threw 8.1 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. New York is now 67-68.

Up to bat in the bottom of the tenth, 36-year old second baseman Sam German had a chance to be the hero. Montreal pitcher Brooks Mather wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, German hit a sacrifice fly. The Imperials had themselves a thrilling win.

"There's no quit in this team," said Imperials manager Jim Abernathy.
