| Pioneers Nipped by Chiefs, 2-1 | St. Louis got a big-time effort from pitcher Billy Hasson, but it wasn't enough to keep the Chicago Chiefs from winning the game, 2-1. Hasson threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Picking up the save was Dutch Lane, his 15th. The Chiefs improved to 73-62.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Ed Bloom? The Chicago second baseman had a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put the Chiefs on top, 2-1. For the game, Bloom had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
