| Imperials Hold Off Mavericks, 3-2 | The New York Imperials eked out a 3-2 win versus the Kansas City Mavericks at Dyckman Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Jim White. He was terrific. Bud Pace got the save, his 7th in 9 chances. At 71-64, the Imperials have a slim two-game lead in the Continental Association East.
The Imperials got a big at-bat from center fielder Bill Wood. For the game, Wood was 2 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 14th double of the season gave New York a 3-2 lead.
"Jim executed his pitches at a high level," said New York manager Jim Abernathy. | |
