Loss Tarnishes Fine Performance by Barnett
Baltimore right fielder Ike Barnett had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Barnett was 3-5 with 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice, even as Atlanta beat the Clippers, 12-7. Howie Burt was the winner. Over 8 innings, he yielded 4 runs on 8 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. The losing streak for Baltimore has now reached 6 games.

The Copperheads got a big hit from left fielder Jack Blair. Facing Baltimore pitcher Buck Guthrie in the bottom of the fifth, Blair pounded a 2-run double to right-center. His 21st double of the season put the Copperheads ahead, 7-4.

"Losing feels worse," said Baltimore manager Hank Luckenbaugh, "than winning feels good."
