| Saints Snatch Late Win | The Montreal Saints polished off the Chicago Cougars by the score of 7-4. The largest share of the credit belonged to pinch hitter Garland Phelps. Phelps was 1 for 1 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Saints. Picking up the win was Jim Montgomery. He went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits. The right--hander struck out 3 and walked 1. Hank Myer was credited with the save for Montreal, his 14th of the season.
Phelps had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a first pitch sinker from Pug White, he banged a 3-run home run to left-center, giving the Saints a 7-4 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Phelps.
"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Phelps.
After today's action, Montreal sits at 57-77, while Chicago falls to 77-54.
