With first baseman Frank Selander leading the charge, the Pittsburgh Miners defeated the Washington Eagles, 5-2, at Columbia Stadium. Selander, who led the FA in batting average with .351 in 1961, was 4 for 4 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs. Pittsburgh is now 76-56, Washington 83-52.

Selander broke a deadlock in the top of the sixth inning, when he hit a run-scoring single, putting Pittsburgh up, 2-1.

"It feels good to get this one," Selander told the Pittsburgh Daily News.
