Chappy Sanders, who is a three-time All-Star, had a direct impact on the outcome. Sanders contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put Chicago up, 3-2.
"Bottom line," said New York skipper Jim Abernathy, "we didn't play well enough to win."
